city government are data sets that i think show us in a very positive way. from my perspective, it's important for us to keep on pushing data sets that allow us to deal with the sometimes imperfections in city government. to figure it out, where it is we need to take risks, we are we can be more entrepreneurial, where we can be more transparent and frank little more accountable to all of you as the residents and as our customers here in city government. and this is why i am proud tomorrow to help move forward legislation that my staff has been working closely with jay nath and mayor leon that will real i do three things. first of all, it will create a chief data officer because we need one person who is responsible and accountable for moving forward our open data agenda. secondly, we're going to require every department in the city to have a representative who is responsible for data so you can go to our transit agency, our police department, any of our 50 plus departments and know who can help you get the data that we need. thirdly, we need to make sure tha

these homes were all largely destroyed. as a matter of fact, nature has now changed the nature of the new jersey coastline. there are inlets where there was none before. it has totally rewritten the geography of the new jersey shoreline. so the relief package we're debating today will help us repair this bridge as well as some of the homes that were clearly lost and part of the highway that will need to be rebuilt and it will help us defend this community from the fear of this happening again. a part of the community totally being ripped out. now, while much of the damage was on the jersey shore, northern new jersey communities like little ferry as seen in this photo and moonachie saw extensive river blagojevich when a berm failed. i was actually by this location and saw fema emergency management teams as well as, of course, local police and firefighters getting people out of their homes and rafts in order to be able to get to dry land. private property damage to both towns has been estimated to exceed $15 million. this bil

we live with that does such a different world and our kids by and large are clueless about this. it is not just language thing. these kids know more about the middle east and china. in speaking to the average high- school in new york city and after it's about what is happening in the world, i think it would take your breath away. this is a serious problem. the second part of what the technology can matter is because we did not have to limit the school day anymore to the hours inside the school room. as -- there is much more we can do. i watch people here from a great school in sweden. and they have managed to create a portal in ways. i met a kid whose mother was an aris -- was a nurse. we are the only profession that admits we are failing in what we're doing for our kids and we all go home at 3:00. there has to be a way to think differently about the dimensions of the challenge. i think technology is part of that problem. about to go back to what condie started. as important as music and art and global history is, to two cannot read into basic mathematics -- kids who cannot read
